ARC Justice (Advocacy and Rights Centre Ltd) was established in 2000. Beginning as a tenancy rights and advocacy service and going on to establish two community legal centres in Bendigo and Shepparton which service a huge area of Victoria, it has a proud history of community engagement, partnerships, advocacy and campaigning.
ARC’s programs now provide legal and tenancy support services across ten local government areas in central and northern Victoria. In response to climate related legal need ARC is growing innovative integrated services that combine disciplines to address the social-legal and housing problems increasingly faced by Victorian regional communities.
The Position:
As the Senior Tenancy Lawyer in the Tenancy Stress Victoria project, you will work closely with a social worker and financial counsellor to prevent evictions and ensure renters impacted by climate change and disasters have access to healthy and sustainable housing. The role involves proactive networking and community engagement, the provision of legal information, and the opportunity to identify and respond to systemic issues and think strategically about preparation for and response to natural disasters. This is an opportunity to implement truly integrated practice.
The Tenancy Stress Victoria team will work closely with ARC Justice’s Housing Justice team and expert lawyers from the two Community Legal Centres operated by ARC Justice. The team will be supported by community outreach officers, management and leadership focused on creative service design that meets the emerging climate and disaster related legal needs of regional Victorians.

About You
The successful candidate will have an impressive track record providing legal advice, casework and representation in residential tenancies law. You will have demonstrated knowledge of or experience in community engagement and partnership cultivation, along with the ability to engage empathetically with people experiencing disadvantage and trauma.
In addition, you will be a values driven leader with a passion for social justice and supporting people and communities to reach their full potential, with the commitment to work collaboratively, whilst empowering, nurturing and mentoring your team to operate and deliver within best practice principles.
